Soltura de 30 papagaios-de-peito-roxo [30 vinaceous-breasted amazons released!]

No passado, era comum avistar grupos de papagaios-de-peito-roxo sobrevoando as matas da região que hoje abriga o Parque Nacional das Araucárias, SC. Porém, as ações humanas, como a retirada ilegal de aves da natureza, reduziram drasticamente o número dessas aves, que levou à extinção da espécie no local. Com o intuito de mudar esta realidade, foi iniciado em 2010 o projeto pioneiro de reintrodução da espécie no Parque, uma unidade de conservação federal.

[In the past, groups of vinaceous-breasted amazon parrots were commonly seeing flying over the forests of the region that now houses the Araucarias National Park, SC. However, human actions, such as the illegal capture of wild birds, dropped the population of this bird, which led to local extinction in the region of the Park. To change this reality, in 2010 we started the pioneer project of reintroduction of the species in the Araucarias National Park, a federal conservation unit.]

Todas as aves passam por um rigoroso processo de reabilitação, que incluem exames clínicos e laboratoriais, análise genética, além de treinamentos comportamentais que os preparam para a vida na natureza. Os papagaios que obtém resultados satisfatórios são identificados por rádio-colares, microchips e anilhas cedidas pelo Centro Nacional de Pesquisa para Conservação de Aves Silvestres. Eles são transportados para o Parque Nacional das Araucárias e colocados em um viveiro. Após um período de ambientação, a soltura é realizada de maneira branda até que voltem definitivamente à floresta. Desde 2010, 83 papagaios já foram soltos, mas em junho de 2017 esse número mudou...

[All birds undergo a rigorous rehabilitation process, which includes clinical and laboratory tests, genetic analysis, and behavioral training to prepare them for life in nature. All birds meeting the health and behavioral criteria, receive radio-collars, microchips and identification rings provided by the Brazilian National Center for Research on the Conservation of Wild Birds (CEMAVE). They are moved to the Araucaria National Park and placed in an acclimation enclosure in the middle of the forest. After the acclimation period, a soft release is carried out until they return to the forest definitively. Since 2010, 83 parrots have been released, but in June 2017 that number has changed.... Why?]

Isso porque no dia 24 de junho, após um longo período de reabilitação, o viveiro de ambientação foi aberto e 30 papagaios-de-peito-roxo puderam experimentar a liberdade, mudando as cores e sons do Parque Nacional das Araucárias. Veja o vídeo desse momento único!

[Because on June 24th, after a long rehabilitation period, the acclimation enclosure was opened and 30 vinaceous-breasted amazons were able to experience freedom, changing the colors and sounds of the Araucarias National Park. See the video of that unique moment!]

A maioria das aves era mantida ilegalmente como animal de estimação e foi apreendida ou entregue voluntariamente à órgãos ambientais de Santa Catarina, São Paulo e Paraná. Outras eram cuidadas em Zoológicos enquanto aguardavam uma oportunidade de voltarem à natureza. Uma nasceu na sede do Instituto Espaço Silvestre durante o período de reabilitação, um feito inédito na nossa história.

[Most of the birds were illegally kept as pets and they were seized or voluntarily delivered to the environmental agencies of Santa Catarina, São Paulo and Paraná. Some other birds came from zoos where they were waiting for an opportunity to return to nature. One bird was born at the Espaço Silvestre Institute during the rehabilitation period, an unprecedented achievement in our history.]

O monitoramento pós-soltura é realizado pela equipe do Instituto Espaço Silvestre através de observações, escuta de vocalizações e rádio-telemetria. Moradores das comunidades auxiliam no monitoramento através da ciência cidadã. Os papagaios soltos em junho já começaram à dispersar pela região. Alguns foram avistados à mais de 6 km do viveiro de soltura. Outros permanecem próximos ao local e se alimentam nas plataformas disponíveis para facilitar a transição para a vida na natureza.

[The Espaço Silvestre staff has been conducting the post-release monitoring through observations, listening to vocalizations and radio-telemetry. Residents of communities assist the monitoring through citizen science. The parrots released in June have already dispersed around the region. Some were sighted more than 6 km away from the acclimation enclosure. Others remain close to the site and feed on available feeders that makes easier the transition to life in nature.]

4-Evite contato pois ele pode transmitir doenças e machucar;

5-Fotografe se possível, anote o local e a data.

1-Contact the Espaço Silvestre Institute immediately by phone / whatsapp (49) 99805-3989 or through the wedsite;

2-Do not catch the parrot;

3-Do not offer manmade foods like cake, coffee or bread. If you wish, make a feeder for birds away from the house and give them only fruits and seeds;

4-Avoid contact as it can transmit diseases and hurt you;

5-Take a photo if possible, note the location and date.
