Volunteering at the Wild Animal Triage Center (CETAS-SC) is a unique opportunity to get to know and help in the various functions involved in the rehabilitation of terrestrial wild animals. CETAS-SC is located in the municipality of Florianópolis (SC) within the Rio Vermelho State Park, close to Praia do Moçambique. In this place we receive animals apprehended, rescued and voluntarily delivered by citizens. There are hundreds of species that are cared for by our team, with the aim of releasing these animals whenever possible or finding the best destination for those who cannot return to nature.
As it is the only CETAS-SC in the state, there are always many demands requiring volunteers dedicated to the cause of wild animals. Main activities include food preparation, environmental enrichments, cleaning of equipment and environments, organization of the place and food deliveries. Please note that, for safety reasons, there is no direct interaction with the animals.
To facilitate the organization and logistics of the team, volunteers must work for a minimum period of one month in their preferred shifts (7am-1pm or 1pm-6pm), at least 2 times a week including weekends and holidays. The certificate will only be issued for those who complete the period stipulated for at least 1 month and the minimum workload of 50 hours. All necessary transportation, accommodation, food and clothing expenses are the responsibility of the volunteer. To apply, carefully read the prerequisites listed at the top of the page and send all the documentation to the indicated e-mail address. We recommend lodging in the neighborhoods of Rio Vermelho or Barra da Lagoa, due to the proximity to the place where the activities are carried out.
As it is a special and monitored area, it is mandatory to identify the Instituto Espaço Silvestre shirt within CETAS. It is available for purchase upon arrival at CETAS-SC, costing R$35.00 and belonging to the volunteer since its acquisition.
VOLUNTARIADO AVES DE NORONHA
Fernando de Noronha is home to the greatest wealth of seabirds in Brazil. But, amazingly, hardly anyone was looking at them. This lack of knowledge and interest motivated the creation of the Aves de Noronha Project, whose main objective is to redirect the gaze of residents and tourists to the island's rich avifauna, through Research, Education, Citizen Science and Sustainable Tourism, improving the state of conservation and strengthening the local economy.
In 2018, the project took its first flight. Through funding from SOS Mata Atlântica, it was possible to develop activities of great relevance for the conservation of the archipelago's birds, such as the creation of a mini-guide, courses for tourist drivers, lectures, recreational activities with children and ecological walks for bird watching.
Today we seek to expand our horizons, making more and more people fall in love with the birds of the island, through social media. As a result, our volunteering is remote and has as its main activities the dissemination of science about the birds of Noronha, the management of the project's social networks and the preparation of educational material for different audiences, adults and children._cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b- 136bad5cf58d_ We expect volunteers who are full of amazing ideas to make more people fall in love with these animals, even on screens!
