QUESTIONS ABOUT WILD ANIMALS
I found an injured/injured animal that needs help. How should I proceed?
All animals that arrive for care at CETAS-SC are apprehended, rescued or received by environmental agencies, and the Espaço Silvestre Institute is not responsible for this service. We only do the process of rehabilitation of wild terrestrial animals. If you are in Santa Catarina and wish to make a voluntary delivery or find an injured animal that needs help, is an orphan or is injured, sick or suffering abuse, contact with the Instituto de Meio Santa Catarina environment (IMA-SC) by WhatsApp (48) 98808-3372. For the other regions of Brazil and Santa Catarina, the telephone numbers are here . Let professionals evaluate the release of each animal and do the work in a way that will effectively help nature.
I hate to see wild animals trapped! Can I release them in the wild?
When done without technical evaluation, the release of wild animals can bring serious ecological risks and end many lives, including the animal you are trying to help. In addition to the problems related to the spread of diseases, there are also risks of introducing genetic lineages different from local populations, introduction of exotic species, behavioral problems, limitation of territory and resources so that this animal can live in the place of release, among others. To be released, the animal needs to be healthy, prepared to move around, forage for food in its wild form, recognize and flee from predators (including humans), etc. All of this requires preparation and is not as simple as it sounds. To avoid problems, do not buy or trap wild animals. See here the contact of the environmental agency or Wild Animal Screening Center in your state. Let professionals evaluate the release of each animal and do the work in a way that will effectively help nature.
How can I help a wild animal that is in captivity?
Keeping wild animals in captivity without legal authorization is a crime! Therefore, check if the animal is in an illegal situation with the competent environmental agencies. Remember that it is not possible to legalize a wild animal without origin . Penalties for keeping illegal animals range from fines to imprisonment. The penalty increases by 50% if the crime is committed against a rare or endangered species, such as the purple-breasted parrot. (Environmental Crimes Law No. 9.605/1998). If the animal is being abused, you can report it to Organs competent bodies. Contact_cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b-136bad5cf58d_environmental agencies from all Brazilian states arehere.
