OUR DREAMS WILL NEVER FIT IN A CAGE
Contribute to and promote animal welfare and conservation through science, education and socio-economic development.
Created in 1999, the history of Instituto Espaço Silvestre (IES) began long before its name. At that time, we were known as Instituto Carijós Pró-Conservação da Natureza and our objective was to support the implementation and participatory management of Conservation Units in Florianópolis, through research, monitoring, environmental education and community mobilization. In 2010, this mission had been accomplished with excellence and we understood that we should fly through other skies.
At the same time, a group of friends passionate about wildlife got together to found Espaço Silvestre, a collective that worked informally and voluntarily on our first project: Reintroduction of the Purple-breasted Parrot in the Araucárias National Park in SC. An important project to reverse the local extinction of this species, but there was no institution as a home. It was then that Instituto Carijós took us in! Over time, the project gained structure and recognition, transforming the organization and permanently changing it to Instituto Espaço Silvestre.
In 2019, we were the first to be placed in the public call notice 001/2018/IMA, starting work at the Santa Catarina Wild Animal Screening Center (CETAS-SC) and incorporated the Aves de Noronha project, flying even higher. In 2002, the Chalana Esperança project became part of the IES family and expanded our work to the Pantanal. In 2022, we brought a new face to the environmental education program with IES Educa, which operates globally. Today the Espaço Silvestre Institute is home to five environmental projects, has more than 45 employees and continues its growing positive impact on nature.
